Nominate your student employee for the Student Employee of the Year award
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 8, 2024) — One key part of the University of Kentucky’s mission is to prepare students to succeed once they leave campus. In addition to the education they receive inside the classroom, many students gain valuable experience in the workforce as UK student employees.
If you have an outstanding student employee in your area, please consider nominating them for the Student Employee of the Year award. The award recognizes undergraduate students who have demonstrated exemplary commitment and initiative in their work.
Nominations are open now through Feb. 18. To be considered, students must:
- Currently be work-study or hourly student employees at UK.
- Have completed or expect to complete at least six months of part-time employment before April 2024.
- Be in a UK undergraduate degree program and enrolled at least half time for both the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters. Nominations can be submitted here.
This year’s nomination form will feature changes that are designed to recognize and celebrate the various strengths and skills our student employees bring to their roles. Student employees will also have the opportunity to be nominated at the national level through the National Student Employment Association in one of five categories. Those selected in each category by the NSEA will be eligible to receive a monetary award of $300. In addition, an overall award recipient can be selected and receive an additional $300.
In addition to the Student Employee of the Year award, UK HR Student Employment will continue to celebrate National Student Employee Appreciation Week April 8-12. More information on how students and their employers can participate will be available soon.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
