Office of LGBTQ* Resources to Host Events to Provide Support for LGBTQ* Community
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2017) —The University of Kentucky strives to be a community where the embrace of diversity and expression welcomes everyone. And that effort includes dynamic programming that engages, informs and provides access to resources for support.
This week, the Office of LGBTQ* Resources — in partnership with the Martin Luther King Center and Student and Academic Life’s Late Night Film Series — will serve as host for two important LGBTQ* conversations Wednesday, March 1.
Events include:
- “Critical Conversations: LGBTQ* Experiences, Shifting Landscapes, and Community Supports,” 3:30-5:00 p.m., in room 391 of the Gatton College of Business and Economics building. This event will feature a panel discussion around issues of importance at federal, state, local and campus levels. The dialogue also will highlight available support unit resources and UK Counseling Center services. Officials from several support units and campus organizations will be on hand to provide information and continue the dialogue.
- Film screening of "Moonlight," 5-7 p.m., in Memorial Hall; this film continues an important conversation about identity, race and self-discovery.
"These paired events offer a time to come together to engage in important conversations about belonging. UK’s incredible diversity — including Wildcats who have many different gender identities, expressions and sexual orientations — certainly makes our community stronger. Events like these provide us opportunities to celebrate that diversity and offer essential support to one another," said Lance Poston, director of the Office of LGBTQ* Resources.
The entire campus community is invited to attend.
Apart from these events, LGBTQ* Resources is available to support individuals as well as facilitate group conversations. LGBTQ* Resources can be reached at lance.poston@uky.edu or 859-323-3312.
