Office of Work-Life to Host Summer Camps Fair

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2018) — University of Kentucky Human Resources Office of Work-Life would like to make your search for great summer camps or summer child care for your children or grandchildren a little easier this year.

Save the date of Friday, March 23, for the fifth annual Summer Camps Fair. The fair will be held 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the Hilary J. Boone Center, and it is open to all faculty, staff and students. Spouses and partners are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Early registration is available here. Survey feedback from last year’s fair provided insight on its value for the UK community.

“It is really nice to talk to and meet the people from the camps,” one attendee said. “It makes decision-making a lot easier.”

Another attendee noted, “I look forward to it each year. It’s a really important event for faculty, staff and students alike.”

More than 40 camps and activities from Fayette and surrounding counties will be at the event. Many camps are offering UK employee discounts, extended hours and/or pre-registration for those who attend.

HR Work-Life hopes this event will help members of the UK community find summer camps, programs and child care that meet their families' summer care needs. Information will also be available about the Big Blue Family Care program, a network of current UK students who can offer occasional child care to families of UK faculty and staff.

New this year is a book exchange. In honor of National Reading Month, attendees are encouraged to bring up to 10 books they no longer need and take books in return. Books should be for children and teens.

Also new this year is a food drive. Attendees will also have an opportunity to donate to the Big Blue Pantry, which serves UK students who are experiencing food insecurity or hunger. More information about suggested donation items can be found on the Summer Camps Fair webpage.
