LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 15, 2010) – The Winter Olympic exhibit hosted by the University of Kentucky Libraries' Special Collections and Digital Programs is bringing special guests to the Bluegrass. The event, featuring Olympics sportscaster and UK alumnus Tom Hammond and Olympic memorabilia collector Jack P. Kelly, will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the Margaret I. King Building. The talk and exhibit are free and open to the public.

During the UK Libraries event, Tom Hammond will speak on his experiences working his ninth Olympic event, the 2010 Winter Olympics. Jack Kelly, owner of the memorabilia currently on exhibit at UK, will talk about his extensive collection of Winter Olympic artifacts.

Hammond, a member of the UK Journalism Hall of Fame, was recently the sportscaster at the figure skating competitions during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. You can view Hammond talk about his experience on UK’s YouTube channel, in the video, "In His Own Words."

Kelly was the CEO of two U.S. Olympic Festivals in Houston and Minneapolis – St. Paul. He is also an Olympics collector. The exhibit on display at UK is from Kelly’s collection, and it includes Winter Olympic tickets, programs, posters, medals and much more from as early as 1928, and as recent as 2002; it even features an Olympic torch.
