Panel Discussion on Memorial Hall Mural Part of 2017 Black Women's Conference

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 22, 2017) — The 1934 mural painted by Ann Rice O'Hanlon on display in Memorial Hall has been a topic of campus debate for many years. This Friday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, University of Kentucky's African American and Africana Studies Program will host a panel discussion after the mural's unveiling.

Panelist for the discussion include:

"As we unveil the mural, it is important that we honor the recommendation of the presidential committee that we present the artwork in context and alongside opportunities for the UK community to express their thoughts on it," Curwood said.

The panel discussion is part of the 2017 Black Women's Conference: "We Represent! Black Women and the Visual Arts." The conference will take place 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. A complete list of events can be found here.
