LEXINGTON, Ky (Dec. 13, 2018) — Campus parking control and bus services change significantly during the break between fall and spring semesters. As a result, University of Kentucky Transportation Services takes a number of parking areas off control during portions of winter break. Campus bus service also operates on a modified schedule.

Friday, Dec. 14, is the end of the fall semester, with the spring semester scheduled to start Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019. Please see below for parking and transportation-related changes during this period:

UK Employee Parking Lots and Structures

In general, all employee lots remain on control for permits for the duration of the semester break, except for the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day (Dec. 24 through Jan. 1).

Student Parking Lots and Structures

The Kroger Field student periphery lots (Blue, Red, Commonwealth Drive and Soccer/Softball) and most student residential lots will not be controlled for permits during portions of the winter break, with the exception of the Seminary area residential lots (R29 and R30), the Wildcat Coal Lodge Lot (R17) and the German House area (R18). For a detailed schedule of parking control dates, visit the office's Winter Break information page.

Students with a valid UK permit are allowed to leave their vehicles parked in the periphery lots over winter break. As an alternative, Transportation Services is offering free holiday passes for students who have a valid UK permit and wish to relocate their vehicles to the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) — a covered parking structure — during the break. These free passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be picked up at the Transportation Services Office. If you wish to use a holiday pass, please be prepared to tell staff the make and model number of your vehicle.

UK HealthCare Parking Structures

With the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day, there are no changes to UK HealthCare policy restricting employee parking in UK HealthCare patient/visitor parking garages and lots. However, no attendants will be on duty on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. To ensure adequate parking for patients and visitors, employees are encouraged to use the Kentucky Clinic Parking Garage (PS #3) on those days instead of the UK HealthCare Garage (PS8).

Campus Buses

The campus BlueWhite and Green bus routes will operate on a modified schedule of 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 17-21, and then again on Jan. 2-4. These routes will not be in operation Dec. 24 through Jan. 1. All three routes will return to normal service schedules beginning Monday, Jan. 7.

The campus Yellow Route will not resume its regular noon to midnight Sunday service until Jan. 6.

The On-Demand Night Bus will not operate Dec. 17 through Jan. 4. Service will resume Monday, Jan. 7.

The last day of Kentucky Wildcab service for the fall semester was Dec. 8. Kentucky Wildcab will resume its normal Thursday through Saturday schedule beginning Jan. 10.

The Orange Route (UK HealthCare Shuttle) will not operate on Christmas and New Year’s Day (Dec. 25 and Jan. 1). The Orange Route will run from 6 a.m. to midnight, Dec. 24, 26-28 and 31, but will operate with a reduced fleet consisting of two buses in the morning and two in the afternoon and evening, due to lower demand and less traffic congestion during this period. The Orange Route will return to normal service schedule beginning Wednesday, Jan. 2.

UK HealthCare’s patient/visitor shuttle between the UK HealthCare Garage and Pav A and Pav H will operate on a normal schedule every day, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Saturday. The patient/visitor shuttle that operates between the UK HealthCare Garage and the Kentucky Clinic will not operate on Christmas and New Year’s Day but will run a normal schedule all other days, Monday through Friday.

UK HealthCare shuttle service from Pav A to Good Samaritan Hospital will not be in service on Christmas or New Year’s Day, but will otherwise run a normal schedule all other days, Monday through Friday.

In addition, the C.E. Barnhart Building will be closed throughout winter break for security purposes. Therefore, the pedway over Cooper Drive will be inaccessible beginning 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2018. The normal schedule for the pedway will resume Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.

Personnel who typically use the pedway are encouraged to use the Orange Route shuttle or the underpass via the pedestrian walk along Veterans Drive during this time.

The Pink Route (Kentucky Clinic Shuttle), will not operate from Monday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 1, but will return to normal service on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
