Same street, new name: Press Avenue is now Elizabeth Street
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2026) — Press Avenue has been renamed to Elizabeth Street, to provide naming continuity between Virginia and Waller avenues.
Following the expansion of the UK HealthCare Garage (PS #8) and the roadway reconfiguration in that area, the old Press Avenue now flows directly into Elizabeth Street at the intersection of Transcript Avenue. This name change streamlines the roadway name throughout the area and provides a consistent street name along the corridor.
Street numbering remains consistent. For example, UK Transportation Services’ office location, previously 721 Press Ave., will become 721 Elizabeth St. Building signage will be updated over the next few weeks to reflect the new name. New street signs have already been installed.
The Lexington city government is also coordinating with emergency services and other appropriate agencies to update official records.
Old USPS mailing addresses with Press Avenue in the name should remain deliverable for approximately one year from the date of the name change.
Roadway maps — including campus maps and online mapping services — are also being updated, along with references to Press Avenue on websites and in printed materials. Physical building signage will be changed over the next few weeks to reflect the new street name.
In addition, Press Avenue Garage (PS #6) will be renamed to Elizabeth Street Garage (PS #6).
Other residents and offices located along the former Press Avenue should also update their address information.
