Sharon Stewart Named Interim Dean at College of Health Sciences
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 5 , 2011) − Sharon R. Stewart, associate dean of academic affairs and professor in the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences, has been named interim dean for the college effective Aug. 1.
Lori Gonzalez, former dean, has accepted a position as Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at Appalachian State University. She served as dean of the UK College of Health Sciences since 2005.
“I am extremely pleased that Dr. Stewart has agreed to serve as interim dean," said Provost Kumble Subbaswamy. "Her familiarity with the college and the state and the strong confidence she enjoys from her colleagues will enable her to do an excellent job of leading the college as it continues to make important contributions to the University and the Commonwealth.”
Stewart received her bachelor's degree in 1971 and her master's degree in audiology and speech sciences in 1973, both from Purdue University. She received her doctorate of education in learning disabilities from UK in 1986. She has been a member of the UK faculty since 1991.
Stewart has served as associate dean of academic affairs at the College of Health Sciences since 2005. Prior to that, she served as director in the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders for three years. Stewart was named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2010 and was also selected as a 2010-11 Southeast Conference Academic Consortium Leadership Development Program Fellow.
