Student Affairs VP Candidates to Visit Campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2010) - Four candidates for vice president of Student Affairs at the University of Kentucky will visit campus over the next three weeks. Based on recommendations from the Vice President for Student Affairs Search Committee, UK Provost Kumble Subbaswamy has invited the candidates for on-campus interviews, including open forums.

Search committee co-chair and assistant vice president and director of Residence Life Jim Wims said, "The Search Committee is pleased to have completed the initial phase of the search process, having reviewed well over 60 vitas. The next step in the process is extremely important in that it provides an opportunity for these four candidates to be exposed to a much broader cross section of campus constituents."

The four candidates, the dates of their visits and the time and location of the open forums are:

Dave Parrott, Texas A&M University

Thursday, Jan. 28

3:30–4:30 p.m. in 230 Student Center

A native Kentuckian raised in Jeffersontown, Dave Parrott earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees at Western Kentucky University and a Doctorate of Education at the University of Louisville. He is currently executive associate vice president, chief of staff and dean of student life in the Division of Student Affairs at Texas A&M University.  He has over 28 years of responsibility in student affairs at two additional institutions, Western Michigan University and Western Kentucky University. Theresa A. Powell, Temple University

Monday, Feb. 1

3:30–4:30 p.m. in 230 Student Center

Currently vice president for Student Affairs at Temple University, Theresa Powell earned her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education at Texas Christian University and her Doctorate of Educational Administration from the Ohio State University. Prior to her current post at Temple, Powell was vice president for Student Affairs, Dean of Students and tenured professor at Western Michigan University. Earlier, she administered two-year campus and administrator of two-year academic and campus programming at the Ohio Board of regents. Cornel Morton, California Polytechnic State University

Thursday, Feb. 4

3:30–4:30 p.m. in 230 Student Center

Currently in his eighth year as the vice president for Student Affairs at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Morton serves as the chief student affairs officer. Prior to six years as associate vice president for Student Support Services at Kent State University, Morton was the assistant vice president for institutional diversity at Central Michigan University. He earned his Bachelor of Science and his master's of secondary education at Tennessee State University and his doctorate in higher education at Kent State University. Robert C. Mock Jr., University of Arkansas

Thursday, Feb. 11

3:30–4:30 p.m. in 230 Student Center

While he earned his bachelor's in industrial engineering at Southern Illinois University, Mock received a master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He is currently associate vice provost for Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), where he has also served as the assistant chancellor for Student Affairs. At the University of Arkansas at Little Rock he also served as Student Services division chief and director of Recruitment and Retention.
