Support United Way with your pet photo/costume submission by Oct. 21

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 18, 2024) — The University of Kentucky raised more than $194,000 last year and made a vast impact on the work being done within United Way of the Bluegrass. This year’s goal is to raise $214,000 during the 2024 campaign which can easily be surpassed with help from the UK community.

Oct. 21 is the last day to enter the Pet Photo/Pet Costume contest. Complete the survey found here. The winner(s) will be determined by the photo that raises the most funds (each dollar raised will count as one vote). Voting will begin online soon on UK’s United Way site, http://unitedwaycampaign.uky.edu.

There are several giveaways lined up this year for employees enrolled in payroll deductions and participating in fundraisers across campus. Some of these prizes include tickets to a UK football game and tickets to a UK basketball game. All prizes will be drawn for after the campaign has concluded.

For payroll deductions, employees can easily enroll through the myUK portal. To make a payroll deduction or pledge simply visit myUK and click on the Employee Self Service tab to begin a United Way pledge.

Additionally, individuals can donate via cash or check, payable to United Way of the Bluegrass or complete a credit card donation at http://uwbg.org.

About United Way of the Bluegrass

This year alone, United Way of the Bluegrass will invest $2.8 million in 84 programs through 59 partner agencies and four WayPoint Centers in its 10-county service region. This would not be possible without the support of donors from the University of Kentucky.

WayPoint Centers are a game changer for the local community. WayPoint’s mission is to create an access point for families and individuals, and to provide vital programming to people living in underserved neighborhoods and communities of color. Each WayPoint Center brings together the region’s most effective nonprofit, government and business organizations to leverage their strengths against the community’s biggest issues. WayPoint Centers coordinate an ecosystem of partners and programs to have the greatest impact on local families from a physical and place-based anchor in their communities.

Since opening the doors to the first WayPoint Center in the Black and Williams Center on July 1, 2021, the United Way team has served thousands across the Bluegrass. The United Way works with individuals to take them from crisis to calm and help guide them to a solution for the challenges they are facing when they walk through the United Way of the Bluegrass doors.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
