UK ADVANCE Team releases Fall 2023 faculty guidelines for generative AI in the classroom
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2023) — In June, University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto charged Provost Robert DiPaola with establishing a committee that would define and develop recommendations for responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) at UK.
DiPaola created UK ADVANCE (Advancing Data utilization for Value in Academia for National and Campus-wide Excellence) to answer this charge. He assembled nearly 30 faculty, staff and students throughout the university to form the transdisciplinary ADVANCE Team.
As generative AI evolves, so does the mission of UK ADVANCE.
Lately, the ADVANCE Team has focused its initial efforts on establishing faculty guidelines and recommendations regarding generative AI and classroom instruction. You can locate the guidelines on the website, or by clicking here.
The purpose of the guidelines is to provide recommendations pertaining to:
- the development of course policies concerning generative AI,
- the response to potential misuse of generative AI,
- and approaches to assignment and learning design that mitigate the risk of misuse and leverage the positive potential of generative AI.
Students and instructors are encouraged to provide feedback on the guidelines by sending an email to UKADVANCE@uky.edu.
The guidelines will continue to evolve, and the ADVANCE Team is committed to keeping campus informed of any changes.
