UK Alert system now integrated with SafeZone app to enhance campus safety

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2025) — The University of Kentucky Police Department (UKPD) has completed the integration of the UK Alert system with the SafeZone app, enhancing how the university delivers emergency notifications to the campus community.
The UK Alert system is the primary way UK communicates during emergencies, providing timely information by email, phone and text. As of Nov. 1, the UK Alert system has integrated with the SafeZone app.
Faculty and staff, here’s what you need to know:
- To receive phone call and text alerts: Employees must download the SafeZone app and register with a valid mobile phone number.
- In addition to these alert types, SafeZone users can also choose to receive push notifications through the app.
- If you do not download SafeZone, you will continue receiving UK Alerts by email only.
- All employees remain automatically enrolled in email alerts, regardless of app use.
- UK students who provide a phone number in myUK will automatically receive phone call and text UK Alerts and all students will continue to receive UK Alert emails to their UKY email addresses.
How to register
- Visit go.uky.edu/SafeZoneApp to download SafeZone from your device’s app store.
- Log in using your LinkBlue credentials.
- Add your cell phone number to your SafeZone profile.
Downloading the app also enables users to receive push notifications — providing another quick and effective way to stay informed during an emergency.
Employees who do not have a smartphone or need assistance with registration can email cmp@uky.edu for help.
UKPD is asking managers and supervisors to share this information with their teams to ensure all employees are aware of the change and have an opportunity to register.
