UK Dining Introduces 'Feed Your Potential 365'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2017) From Feb. 15 to March 15, University of Kentucky Dining will be highlighting its "Eat Well" selections at the Fresh Food Co. and Blazer Dining in a campaign called "Feed Your Potential 365."  Dining is working to empower UK students and employees to make healthy food, nutrition and lifestyle choices

The "Healthy for Life 20 by 20" initiative, launched in August 2015 by Aramark, is to achieve a 20 percent reduction in calories, saturated fat and sodium, as well as a 20 percent increase in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, to improve the health of Americans in partnership with the American Heart Association by 2020.

The goal of the promotion is to inspire the campus community to be "Healthy for Life" by helping everyone discover what healthy food can do to "Feed Your Potential" every day.

"UK Dining has taken strides to lower the amount of empty calories from our beverage menus by reducing a size large soft drink to 32 ounces from the previous 44 ounces; which decreases the calorie range from 290-630 to 210-460, excluding diet products," said UK Dining Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Lauren McKnight-Ford. "We want to emphasize that the majority of daily calories should come from a balanced meal of lean proteins, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and healthy fats."

"Eat Well" selections can be found at Blazer Dining and Fresh Food Co. and contain less than 650 calories and 700 milliagrams of sodium, and include at least one full serving of nutritionally dense whole foods (fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, whole grains, beans or lean protein).
