LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 20, 2019) University of Kentucky faculty and staff are invited to experience a “Day in the Life” of a college student by signing up to tour one of the residence halls on north campus and enjoy a free lunch at Champions Kitchen in the Gatton Student Center.

"Staff and faculty may have heard about the new residence halls, the Living Learning Programs and the new dining facility, Champions Kitchen, but it’s another thing to take the tour with some of the staff who work in the facilities," said Penny Cox, associate vice president for administration. "Staff and faculty are going to have that opportunity this summer."

Data proves that students are choosing colleges and universities based on their academic interests and pursuits, but quality of life spaces such as residence halls, dining facilities, student centers and bookstores are all factors that affect students’ decisions.

“We want faculty and staff to see firsthand these incredible spaces and what UK students experience as part of their on-campus living experience,” said Nick Kehrwald, dean of students.

Research shows that students who live on campus and participate in one of the Living Learning Programs do better academically than those who live off campus. Tour guides will give participants information on each of the 13 Living Learning communities and all of the residence halls and how they benefit students.

Each “Day in the Life” tour will last approximately two hours. Participants will view a model room, multipurpose spaces and a classroom in a north campus residence hall, walk through the Barnes & Noble UK Bookstore in the Gatton Student Center where they receive a special discount and have a free lunch at Champions Kitchen.

The tour dates are June 4–6 and June 11–13. Participants can choose one of two tours that will be offered each day. The first tour will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The second tour will begin with lunch at noon, followed by a tour that begins at 1 p.m. Participants also have the option to only take the tour.
