UK Friends & Alumni to Go Back to School

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 6, 2010) – If you've always wanted to take a class with a guarantee of no quizzes or homework, the University of Kentucky is offering your dream course.

The Office of Development, along with the UK Alumni Association and Office of the President,  will sponsor the fifth term of Winter College, called "Discover, Discuss, and Debate," at the Naples Hilton in Naples, Fla., Feb. 8, 2010.

Those who register for the day-long program will listen to featured speakers such as UK President Lee T. Todd Jr., who will talk to friends and alumni of UK about the good work students, faculty, and staff are doing on campus. 

A variety of topics will be covered by George C. Herring, professor emeritus of history, who will discuss “Looking Back, Thinking Ahead: A Historical Perspective on U.S. Foreign Policy,” and Rob Mullens, deputy director of Athletics, will talk about “UK Athletics Finances: Facts and the Competitive Marketplace.” Dr. Mark Evers, director of the Markey Cancer Center, will tell the group about “Updates from the Markey Cancer Center: Advances in Cancer Research, Education and Treatment," while UK Provost Kumble Subbaswamy will present: “Students as a Measure of UK’s Success: The Four Pillars of a Top 20 Student Body.”

Registration for this event is online. The deadline to sign up for this year's Winter College is Feb. 1 and enrollment is limited to the first 150 participants.
