UK Increases All-in-One Recycling by 8 Percent in 2016

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2017) — The University of Kentucky's All-in-One recycling program saw an 8 percent increase in material recycled in 2016. The single-stream program recycled 741 tons (1,482,000 pounds), compared to 688 tons in 2015.

The All-in-One program collects plastic bottles, metal cans, glass bottles, paper and cardboard all in the same containers at more than 1,500 locations across campus, including UK HealthCare locations.

UK recycled a total of 2,274.85 tons through all its recycling programs. By sending some of these recyclables to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Recycling Center, UK, along with other entities, helps support more than 6,000 manufacturing jobs, including about 770 jobs in Kentucky, in companies that rely on recyclable materials.

To build off this success, the UK Recycling Office is encouraging members of the UK community to recycle more than ever through Recyclemania, a national recycling competition among college and university recycling programs.

Throughout March, the Recycling Office, in collaboration with the UK Office of Sustainability and UK Dining, will encourage UK students, faculty and staff to recycle more and waste less. Events across campus will highlight the importance of recycling on campus.

You can find recycling opportunities and more information about recycling at UK on:

  • March 2 – 10 a.m. to noon, outside of White Hall Classroom Building;
  • March 7 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., inside The 90;
