UK Police Department issues crime bulletin: Electric scooter theft
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 25, 2026) — In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.
The UK Police Department (UKPD) has received multiple reports of electric scooters stolen from bike racks near residence halls on Sports Center Drive. At least three electric scooter thefts were reported between Aug. 22 and Aug. 24. While these thefts occurred along Sports Center Drive, please ensure your electric scooters are secured properly, no matter where you are on campus.
UKPD is investigating these cases to identify potential suspects linked to these recent thefts. If you have any information regarding recent electric scooter thefts, please contact UK Police at 859-257-UKPD (8573).
The University of Kentucky values a safe community for all students, staff, faculty and visitors. In the interest of promoting a safe and secure campus environment, UK Police offers the following safety precautions:
- Securely lock your bikes and electric scooters to designated campus bike racks using high-quality U-Locks. Cable locks alone don’t offer the same protection.
- Identify and document the serial number associated with your bikes and electric scooters. UK Transportation Services encourages all students and employees to obtain a bicycle permit at no cost to help deter theft. Register your ride today.
- Call UKPD at 859-257-UKPD (8573) if you have any property stolen on campus.
- If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to the UK Police Department via the SafeZone app or by calling 859-257-UKPD (8573). Timely tips from the community make a big difference.
- In an emergency, dial 911.
