Vigil to Take Place for UK Student

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 27, 2018) — On Thursday, Sept. 27, a vigil will be held for Te'Niya Jones, a University of Kentucky student who passed away in a swimming accident while on an education abroad program this past summer.

Hosted by the UK Black Student Union, the candlelight memorial will consist of a prayer, words of encouragement, a dedicated song, words of remembrance from Jones' loved ones, a poetry reading, and release of balloons in remembrance.

The vigil will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. outside of the Gatton Student Center on the Avenue of Champions side, in front of the UK logo (Courtyard of Champions).

Those in attendance are asked to wear green, as it was Jones' favorite color.

Jones, from Fort Myers, Florida, was a sophomore at UK. She died in a swimming accident in Tel Aviv, Israel, in late July.
