LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 22, 2020) — In this time of social distancing, the University of Kentucky is missing our students on campus. Students and visitors are the heartbeat of UK and are what makes our campus lively and active.

Typically, the UK Visitor Center is bustling in April — connecting with prospective students and their families, offering them the resources they need to imagine themselves as Wildcats. With on-campus, in-person events suspended through July, UK’s Office of Undergraduate Admission is bringing campus to you — right where you are!

UK has unveiled a new virtual visit site, visit.uky.edu. This site provides an opportunity for students to experience what’s possible on our campus — from anywhere.

Additionally, new live online sessions are available for prospective students to connect with admission staff, representatives from the academic colleges and current students through one (or multiple) virtual information sessions. Prospective students and their families simply register for one of the available times.

“We want to continue to create connections for prospective students even if we have to do it a bit differently,” said Grace Johnson, acting director of the Visitor Center. “We want students to encounter the same customer service, friendliness and Wildcat pride that they would experience when making the trip to visit campus through a virtual platform. We’ll continue creating space for those connections until we’re able to do it in person once more.”

For students and families, here's how you can explore what’s wildly possible at UK on the new site:

  • Take a virtual tour of campus at your own pace or let one of our student tour guides walk you virtually through UK on a guided virtual campus tour.

  • Meet with the Undergraduate Admission staff to learn about the admission, scholarship and housing information through an online enrollment session.

  • Meet with a representative from the academic college of interest to you to learn more about our more than 200 academic programs.

  • Attend virtual events to connect with other prospective students along with current Wildcats.

  • Find out more about the UK community and where you might find your “home” on campus.

  • Explore residence halls, Living and Learning Programs and other on-campus resources like the Gatton Student Center, dining halls and campus recreation and wellness facilities.

  • Experience the city of Lexington and the Bluegrass region that we call home.

  • Attend Transfer Information Sessions where you learn how easy it is to transfer to UK.

In support of prospective students making college decisions, UK's application for admission remains open for students who are interested in being part of #UK2024. Students may apply without standardized test scores and with self-reported GPAs — this is part of UK’s response to the coronavirus as access to both of these items is limited right now. Students are encouraged to apply by May 25. The confirmation deadline has been pushed back to June 1 to allow for students and families who may need more time to make their final college decision.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
