Volunteers needed for Big Blue Move-In 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 30, 2024) — In August, thousands of first-time students will move into residence halls and begin their collegiate experience. They will arrive on campus, many with their parents in tow, filled with nervous energy and excitement.
The University of Kentucky Campus Housing team wants to make every student’s first day the absolute best experience possible. To achieve this, UK is looking for volunteers to assist with Big Blue Move-In between Aug.18-21.
Big Blue Move-In volunteers are important to the move-in process — they welcome students, their family and friends with a warm smile, help them acclimate to their new home away from home and provide a quiet reassurance that everyone at UK is here to ensure their success.
Outside of making a difference in the lives of new students and their families, volunteers receive the following benefits:
- All volunteers will receive a meal card to use at The 90 or Champions Kitchen during their shift(s) to enjoy a complimentary meal as a small token of appreciation.
- Show UK pride and stand out during Big Blue Move-In with an exclusive Big Blue Move-In volunteer T-shirt.
- UK student volunteers will have the opportunity for early move-in, ensuring extra support and guidance as the new students settle into their residence halls.
Volunteer shifts run between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug.18-21. Whether volunteers can spare a few hours or commit to a full day, their contribution has a significant impact on UK' students and their Big Blue Move-In experience.
Sign up to volunteer by July 15 by visiting here.
Not only will volunteers be making a difference in the lives of new students and their families, but they also will have the chance to be part of a vibrant and welcoming community. Big Blue Move-In sets the tone for the entire academic year, and your involvement creates a positive atmosphere that lasts.
For questions or further information, contact UKMoveIn@uky.edu. Following receipt of your registration, volunteers will receive a confirmation email detailing their preferred shift.
As Big Blue Move-In 2024 approaches, expect more details about assignments via the email address provided during registration.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
