Walk and Roll Week: Alternative Transportation Week of Fun

Walk and Roll Week Oct. 1-6

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 26, 2018)—Are you ready to walk and roll? The first week of October is Walk and Roll Week, a jam-packed week of events celebrating the students and employees who choose alternative transportation options for their commute.

Think outside the parking spot, and make plans to participate in your favorite activities, whether they involve buses, biking, or your own two feet.

Monday, Oct. 1, at 8:30 a.m.: Breakfast at the Bus Stop

Enjoy free coffee and donuts from North Lime Coffee and Donuts at the Taylor/Dickey Bus stop on South Upper Street. This event is for bus riders and includes instruction on how to load a bike onto a bus. Lextran is co-hosting this event.

Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 3-4 p.m.: Radical Walking

Recapture your understanding of everyday spaces. Through slow walking, participants will learn how to use their five senses to employ mindfulness and how to experience the world at a different pace. This event starts at the Chemistry-Physics Building.

Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Reimagine Rose Street Festival

Once a busy vehicle thoroughfare in the heart of campus, Rose Street is being reimagined. Join us for yard games, bicycle polo, activities and entertainment to see what the new Rose Street will be for non-motorized users. Stop by Rose Street between Funkhouser and Huguelet Drive.

Thursday, Oct. 4, at 9:30 a.m.: Trivia in Transit

Hop on the Blue Route for a morning of Cash Cab inspiration. Pump up your competitive side by answering questions about UK, Lexington and transportation to win swag and other prizes! Lextran is hosting this event.

Friday, Oct. 5, from 6-7:30 p.m.: Book Benches Bicycle Tour

Starting at the William T. Young library, join representatives from Wildcat Wheels, UK Libraries and LexArts for a tour of the book benches around downtown. Learn about how the benches came to be, as well as the authors, art and artists who created them.

Saturday, Oct. 6, at 8:30 a.m.: Go Big Blue 4 Miler

Kick off the next Move Well Fitbit challenge and join in the run/walk that finishes inside Kroger Field. Kroger Simple Truth is hosting this event. More information can be found here.

Monday, Oct. 1, through Saturday, Oct. 6: Bike Tag

Snap pics of your bicycle (or a Spin bicycle) in front of certain campus locations and tag @WildcatWheels on Twitter to win prizes. More information about the specific areas can be found here
