LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 31, 2022) — Everyone knows that feeling.

You know it: Being told to wait your turn. Your time will come, perhaps not today, but some day.

At the University of Kentucky, we believe that day — for our students and our community — is now.

We don’t have time to wait. There’s too much to do and so much that is wildly possible for all of us who claim the Big Blue Nation as our home and our pride.

We aren’t waiting for permission or to be told what we can do or how we can do it.

We are searching for answers now, in the form of cures for diseases and opportunities for people — in every town and city, corner and community, of our Commonwealth.

We believe the discoveries made here can change our state and our world. We believe the education we provide to students positions them not simply for their first job, but for a career where potential and possibility meet and grow.

Most importantly, we are preparing students for lives of meaning and purpose, in a world with real needs, but still so much to offer.

We push each other to go further, faster, than what we think is possible. We support each other when challenges seem a little too daunting.

Where there is need — wherever we find it — there is us. This place. This university. This community of scholars, students and staff, who are dedicated to a purpose and a place like no other.

Wildcats don’t wait.

Wildcats never stop.

Watch the 2022-23 institutional advertisement above to experience the momentum our students, faculty and staff are harnessing to propel the Commonwealth forward.

National, regional and local audiences will view this television spot as the Wildcats take to the field and court throughout the 2022-23 UK Athletics season.

This year, we will strive to tell the stories of many of the people you see in this advertisement because the roles they play in advancing Kentucky go way beyond a short video clip.

Each month, UKNow will feature a story inspired by this advertisement. If you have other ideas of people and programs contributing to the momentum of our institution, please email us.

The University of Kentucky is increasingly the first choice for students, faculty and staff to pursue their passions and their professional goals. In the last two years, Forbes has named UK among the best employers for diversity, and INSIGHT into Diversity recognized us as a Diversity Champion four years running. UK is ranked among the top 30 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK has been judged a “Great College to Work for" three years in a row, and UK is among only 22 universities in the country on Forbes' list of "America's Best Employers."  We are ranked among the top 10 percent of public institutions for research expenditures — a tangible symbol of our breadth and depth as a university focused on discovery that changes lives and communities. And our patients know and appreciate the fact that UK HealthCare has been named the state’s top hospital for five straight years. Accolades and honors are great. But they are more important for what they represent: the idea that creating a community of belonging and commitment to excellence is how we honor our mission to be not simply the University of Kentucky, but the University for Kentucky.
