LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 22, 2022) — There are those moments.

Perhaps they seem small at first.

The first time in a classroom, either as a student or a teacher. The first time on campus or at a game. The first all-nighter in the library. The first opportunity to explore new places and spaces in town or across the campus. The first new friend, club or new experience.

Or the first moment you know.

It’s that time you find your passion and your calling. The spark of an idea or the goal of a career that ignites something within you, to push a little further … try a little harder.

A challenge to discover and serve, heal and support … to solve problems … create hope … offer answers.

Small moments, but taken together and over time, almost imperceptibly, they add up to something.

Moments become lifetimes.

At UK, we embrace moments.

We know they add up to something special — taken together, they help sustain and foster a community with a sense of momentum behind its mission to advance the state we were created to serve.

There are those moments.

Make the most of them.

Embrace them.

Welcome to the first day of a new semester.

We will discover moments together.

Watch the video above to experience some of the moments our students relish the most during their time at the University of Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky is increasingly the first choice for students, faculty and staff to pursue their passions and their professional goals. In the last two years, Forbes has named UK among the best employers for diversity, and INSIGHT into Diversity recognized us as a Diversity Champion four years running. UK is ranked among the top 30 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK has been judged a “Great College to Work for" three years in a row, and UK is among only 22 universities in the country on Forbes' list of "America's Best Employers."  We are ranked among the top 10 percent of public institutions for research expenditures — a tangible symbol of our breadth and depth as a university focused on discovery that changes lives and communities. And our patients know and appreciate the fact that UK HealthCare has been named the state’s top hospital for five straight years. Accolades and honors are great. But they are more important for what they represent: the idea that creating a community of belonging and commitment to excellence is how we honor our mission to be not simply the University of Kentucky, but the University for Kentucky.
