UK Dentist Selected to Represent US in the World Workshop in Oral Medicine
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2010) − Dr. Juan F. Yepes, associate professor and director of radiology at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, Division of Oral Diagnosis, Medicine and Radiology has been selected to represent the U.S. at The World Workshop in Oral Medicine to be held Sept. 21-25 in London, England.
The World Workshop in Oral Medicine is the most important meeting in oral medicine and oral diagnosis in the world, Yepes said.
Yepes was selected from a pool of 70 U.S. professionals in oral medicine. The meeting is held every four years, and the main goal is to review the most updated evidence in all areas of oral medicine, such as salivary gland dysfunction, oral lesions and orofacial pain. Yepes will be responsible for leading a detailed review process in each topic. He will also be responsible for assembling the information and presenting it to The World Workshop in Oral Medicine plenary.
The title of The World Workshop in Oral Medicine is "Honoring the Past, building for the future: transatlantic perspectives of 40 years of oral medicine." The workshop is a joint meeting of the European Association of Oral Medicine and the American Academy of Oral Medicine.
Yepes is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He is an active member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, American Dental Association, American Academy of Oral Medicine, Hispanic Dental Association and American Dental Education Association. His teaching, research and practice interests are in the areas of oral radiology, oral medicine, epidemiology of oral diseases and orofacial pain.
