Health Fair Promotes Importance of Healthy Aging

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 7, 2013) - A health fair set for April 1 will promote the importance of healthy aging and prevention practices.

Sanders-Brown Center on Aging will hold its 5th Annual Mind Matters health fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, April 1, at the Fayette County Extension office, 1140 Red Mile Place in Lexington.

The health fair will feature hands-on activities that let you explore the incredible power of the brain and learn about the latest research advances in the areas of healthy aging and Alzheimer's disease. There will be interactive workshops, information booths, and health and memory screens for older adults and their families.

This year, information will be centered on education about reducing the vascular risk factors that have been linked to Alzheimer's disease, such as nutrition, and physical and mental exercise. It will also include a live "brain-health" cooking demonstration from the chefs at Holly Hill Inn in Midway.

Admission to the health fair is free and open to the public. There will be door prizes and giveaways, and lunch and refreshments are provided. For more information, contact the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at (859) 323-5550.
