Summer Break Airport Shuttles to Run May 2-5

LEXINGTON, KY. (April 15, 2019) — For the first time, University of Kentucky Transportation Services is offering free airport shuttle service from Kroger Field to Blue Grass Airport (LEX), Louisville International Airport (SDF) and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) for summer break. 

Airport shuttle service is available to UK students, faculty and staff over a four-day period: Thursday through Sunday, May 2-5. Transportation Services, in partnership with the Student Transportation Fee Advisory Council (STFAC), added free shuttle service — as a one-year pilot program — to the Louisville and Cincinnati airports, in addition to the Lexington airport. For these summer airport shuttles, the STFAC has spearheaded the project as a way to help students with their mobility options. More details about airport shuttles can be found here.

“The demand for this service has been encouraging during this pilot year. The fact that we are able to extend this and offer summer airport shuttles for the first time speaks volumes to the popularity and usefulness of the program,” said Lance Broeking, director of UK Transportation Services. “It’s cost-effective for students and parents, and it also allows them to consider other transportation options on campus other than having a car.”

Airport shuttles to all three airports will leave from Kroger Field at 6 a.m., 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, May 2-5. Riders should plan to arrive at their destination airport at least two hours before take-off. Registration for airport shuttle service is available online and must be requested at least one day in advance.

For students who need assistance getting to Kroger Field pm Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3, for their 6 a.m. shuttle, Transportation Services will provide a campus shuttle that starts pick-up at 5 a.m. Those shuttle pick-up locations are at Martin Luther King Boulevard (between Jewell and Blazer Halls), William T. Young Library (front loop), Woodland Avenue (between Chellgren Hall and Woodland Glen II), Sports Center Drive (in front of Woodland Glen III) and Sports Center Drive (south corner of Woodland Glen IV). Those shuttle times and associated locations can be found here.  

For students utilizing the 10 a.m. or 3 p.m. airport shuttles Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3, and who need assistance getting to Kroger Field, Transportation Services recommends using the on-campus Blue and White campus routes that run every seven-10 minutes. Riders should leave their residence halls 30 minutes prior to their airport shuttle departure time to ensure they have plenty of travel time. If you are utilizing the Saturday, May 4, or Sunday, May 5, shuttles and need assistance to Kroger Field, Transportation Services will provide campus shuttles to Kroger Field for the 6 a.m., 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. airport shuttles.
