UK Named Among Great Colleges to Work For in the US
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 16, 2019) — The University of Kentucky has been recognized as a "Great College to Work For" by ModernThink for the second consecutive year. The results, released today in a special insert of the Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 236 colleges and universities. In all, 85 of the 236 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies.
Now in its 12th year, the Great Colleges to Work For program recognizes colleges for best practices and policies based on a survey of faculty and staff. The annual survey is one of the largest and most comprehensive workplace recognition programs in higher education.
"Your bold ideas and dedication to those we serve make ours a unique community," said President Eli Capilouto in an email to UK faculty and staff today announcing the Great College to Work For achievement. "Your commitment to our mission and to one another means we can pursue a future that is full of possibilities."
Colleges across the country, 152 four-year institutions and 84 two-year institutions, participated in the assessment. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with UK included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students.
“Earning a place on this list serves as a reminder of the strong culture and sense of community we work to foster at UK," said Kim Wilson, vice president for human resources and chief human resources officer. "With campus in the midst of our UK@Work employee engagement survey, we appreciate every opportunity to hear feedback and continue making UK a place where the very best faculty and staff can pursue their professional ambitions.”
ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous "Best Places to Work" programs, administered the survey and analyzed the results.
The survey evaluates employee satisfaction in 12 categories in four general areas: leadership, the workplace, careers and compensation. Its two-part assessment process includes an institutional audit of demographics and workplace policies, as well as the survey of faculty, staff and administrators, with employee feedback being the primary factor. Based on the top responses, UK continues to stand out and receives recognition for its compensation and benefits.
