LEXINGTON, Ky (Nov. 12, 2020) — The upcoming winter break will impact both campus parking control and bus services. Both change significantly during academic breaks and then resume normal operation when classes start again. Please see below for more details about parking, bus schedules and holiday parking passes.

UK Employee Parking Lots and Structures

In general, all employee lots remain on control for permits, with the exception of the following dates:

  • Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, and the day after, Friday, Nov. 27
  • Monday, Dec. 21, through Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.

Student Parking Lots and Structures

In previous years, students with residential or periphery permits were able to leave their vehicles in place over winter break. However, UK has a scheduled home football game on Dec. 5, which means that students who park in designated football relocation areas must relocate their vehicles before they leave for winter break.

All student residential lots will remain on control for valid permits over winter break. Any valid UK permit will suffice for many residential areas. However, the following lots and structures require the specific permit for that area:

  • Seminary residential lots (R29 and R30);
  • Wildcat Coal Lodge lot (R17);
  • Rose Street Garage (R2);
  • Sports Center Garage and Complex Drive (R7); and
  • German House area (R18).

Holiday Parking Passes

To make football relocation easier and to provide a covered parking option to protect vehicles from winter weather, Transportation Services is offering free holiday passes for students who have a valid UK permit and wish to move their vehicles to the Cornerstone Garage (PS #5) — a covered parking structure — for the duration of semester break.

These free passes will be available beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and can be picked up at the Transportation Services’ customer service center in the Press Avenue Garage (PS #6) or the Cornerstone Garage (PS #5). If you wish to use a holiday pass, please be prepared to tell staff the make, model and license plate number of your vehicle.

UK HealthCare Parking Structures

With the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26; Friday, Nov. 27; Christmas Day; and New Year’s Day, there are no changes to UK HealthCare policy which restricts employee parking in UK HealthCare patient/visitor parking garages and lots. Attendants will not be on duty on Nov. 26 and 27, or Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. To ensure adequate parking for patients and visitors, employees are encouraged to use the Kentucky Clinic Parking Garage (PS #3) on those days instead of the UK HealthCare Garage (PS #8).

Blue and Green Route Bus Service

The weekday campus Blue and Green bus routes will operate on a normal schedule through Tuesday, Nov. 24.

The buses will operate on a modified schedule of 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 25;
  • Monday, Nov. 30, through Friday, Dec. 18; and
  • Monday, Jan. 4, through Friday, Jan. 22.

The buses will not be in service on these dates:

  • Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27;
  • Monday, Dec. 21, through Sunday, Jan. 1; and
  • Monday, Jan. 18.

Regular Blue and Green campus bus service schedules begin on Monday, Jan. 25.

Yellow Route Bus Service

The campus Yellow Route will run as usual on Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22, but then will not resume weekend service again until Sunday, Jan. 24, when it will have extended hours from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Orange Route Campus Buses

The Orange Route (UK HealthCare Shuttle) will not operate on Thanksgiving Day or the day after, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day (Nov. 26-27, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1). It will run a modified schedule from 5:30 a.m. to midnight Dec. 21-24 and Dec. 28-31, with a reduced fleet consisting of two buses due to lower demand and less traffic congestion during this period.

The Orange Route will return to normal service beginning on Monday, Jan. 4.

UK HealthCare Patient Shuttles

UK HealthCare’s patient/visitor shuttle between the UK HealthCare Garage and Pav A and Pav H will operate on a normal schedule every day, Sunday through Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. The patient/visitor shuttle that operates between the UK HealthCare Garage and the Kentucky Clinic will not operate on Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, but will run a normal schedule all other days, Monday through Friday.

UK HealthCare shuttle service from Pav A to Good Samaritan Hospital will not be in service on Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, but will otherwise run a normal schedule all other days, Monday through Friday.

On-Demand Night Bus

The On-Demand Night Bus will not operate on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, or the day after, Nov. 27, or Dec. 21 through Jan. 1. Service will resume on Monday, Jan. 4.

Kentucky Wildcab

The last day of Kentucky Wildcab service for the fall semester will be Saturday, Nov. 21. Kentucky Wildcab will resume its normal Thursday through Saturday schedule beginning on Thursday, Jan. 28.
