Amateur Comedy Night Is Worth the Risk

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2010) – The beginning of this week is crammed full of things to do, so if you feel boredom fast approaching, do not fear! The Cats Den has the answer.

A Professional Lecture Series, featuring police officers, fire fighters and EMS professionals, is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18. This series was created to provide an easy atmosphere where students can learn about professional career options from successful people in the trade.

An Amateur Comedy Night is on the calendar for 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, and the winner will host the following night's Comedy Caravan at 8 p.m.

Amateur Comedy Night encourages one and all to take the stage to tickle the audience’s collective funny bone. Both the experienced and inexperienced are more than welcome to this free night of fun. Come up and just give it a try. You'll be surrounded by people just like you. They'll share in your nervousness and offer support. You can't really turn down an opportunity to put yourself out there, can you? Worst case scenario is you get laughed off the stage and that doesn't sound so bad, does it?

The comedic profession found Comedy Caravan headliner Geoff Tate when he wasn't quite looking for it. He wasn't looking for much at all, really. College wasn't appealing, and neither was a 9 to 5. This freelance joke writer has been on "The Bob and Tom Show" and Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham" this summer. You should certainly look forward to this free opportunity to see him on campus.

All events are in the Cats Den, which is located on the ground floor of the Student Center. These Cats Den events are free to UK students, staff and faculty.
