LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 6, 2022)  The not-so-secret key to academic success at the University of Kentucky is living on campus. On average, students who live on campus have higher GPAs than their classmates who live off campus — and are more likely to graduate on time. As a returning student, you also have the added benefit of choosing to live in specific buildings with room types available only to upperclassmen.

Returning, non-freshmen and transfer students will have the opportunity to live in residence halls made for upperclassmen such as Boyd Hall and University Flats until vacancy is full. Returning students have the advantage to select rooms and roommates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students who apply and are offered to participate in a Living Learning Program (LLP) or groups designated by the university may receive exceptions to live in other halls.

“We understand that our student Wildcats may feel attachment to a certain hall, but we believe that this model will allow them to develop community and enhance engagement opportunities for students regardless of classification or organizational affiliation," said Drew Smith, assistant vice president for Auxiliary Services.

UK Campus Housing is more than a place to rest your head. It’s your home and the place where you and your friends dream about what’s possible. After all, your new home — your residence hall — was built specifically with you in mind.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
