LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2022) Employees with a University of Kentucky health insurance plan can now take advantage of Hinge Health, a digital exercise therapy program, to support back and joint health.

Hinge Health provides tools to conquer back and joint pain, recover from injuries, prepare for surgery and stay healthy and pain free. The program is available at no cost to employees with UK health insurance and their eligible dependents.

Employees who use Hinge Health will be matched with a care team based on their unique needs. It will include a personal physical therapist who will help with a care plan and conduct virtual physical therapy sessions, if needed. Care teams for treatments that are longer term also include a health coach, who will help users stick with the program and make beneficial changes in their daily lives. The coach is available via email, text or over the phone to answer questions.

Hinge Health offers an app to guide users in short exercise therapy sessions. Some treatment plans also include wearable sensors that provide live feedback on your position, so users can adjust their body in real time.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
