'Art of Covid' exhibit at UK Chandler Hospital closes end of June
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 28, 2023) — Visitors to the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital will be greeted until June 30 with an art exhibit expressing the pain, empowerment and pride and joy of University of Kentucky’s Asian American and Pacific Islander employees.
The exhibit in the corridor that connects Pavilion A and Pavilion H opened in May to coincide with UK’s celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, and highlights winning entries from an "Art of Covid" competition.
“This art exhibit provides a visual history for researchers in the future exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work lives and personal lives of the university’s employees in the Asian American/Asian diaspora community,” said Tracy Lu, an associate professor in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment's Department of Retailing and Tourism Management.
The hospital exhibition draws on winning entries displayed for three weeks in the fall semester in the Gatton Student Center as a tabletop exhibit which included oil painting, hand-crafted images, sculpture, photos, poetry and creative dance.
