LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 19, 2024) — This National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, UK HealthCare's Endoscopy Center invites you to go "Strollin' Through the Colon" with a special tour of the ‘Incredible Colon,’ an inflatable colon large enough for visitors to walk through.

The free event will take place on Wednesday, March 20, from noon to 4 p.m. in the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital Pavilion A lobby and is open to all employees, patients and visitors.

Inside the 12-foot inflatable colon, educational exhibits will provide valuable information about colon health, screening options and how to prevent colorectal cancer. The UK Endoscopy Center team will also be onsite to answer questions and provide information about colon cancer screening, prevention and early detection. The event is held in collaboration with the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center’s Kentucky Cancer Program.

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer mortality in the U.S. The good news is that unlike many cancers, it is often preventable through regular screening. People at average risk are now advised to begin getting screened at age 45.

The UK Endoscopy Center offers a range of diagnostic endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies, that allow for early detection and treatment of various GI conditions. The center brings together providers from various disciplines including endoscopy, cancer treatment, surgery, pharmacy and radiology.
