Safe Kids Day is June 20
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 14, 2024) — Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Safe Kids Fayette County and other community organizations will host Safe Kids Day on June 20. This community event promotes awareness of child injury prevention. It is free and open to the public and will be held at Gainesway Park, Tates Creek Community Center from 4-7 p.m.
“The season between June 1st and August 31st is known as the ‘100 deadliest days of summer,’” said Sherri Hannan, coordinator of Safe Kids Fayette County. “Education and awareness are the first steps in preventing accidents and injuries, particularly during outdoor activities like swimming, biking and walking. These precautions can significantly reduce the risk of incidents and ensure that children can enjoy their summer break safely.”
Safety experts and medical providers will be available for information and demonstrations, including:
- Car seat installation inspection;
- What to do in the event of a house fire;
- Water safety;
- Helmet fittings and bike safety rodeo; and
- How to obtain a child ID.
Families can also enjoy snacks, balloon animals and face painting.
“We appreciate any opportunity to interact with the community and provide potentially lifesaving information,” said Hannan. “We want kids to be active and play and with an event like Safe Kids Day, we can demonstrate how they can enjoy their favorite activities safely.”
