UK Media Advisory:  Campus Crime Bulletin

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2024) — In the interest of safety, the University of Kentucky Police Department has issued the following Crime Bulletin for the UK community.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, the UK Police Department received a report of a drug-related incident. The incident is reported to have occurred Saturday, Sept. 14. While on campus, the victim was given a drink and later learned that it contained a controlled substance, which led to them becoming ill and receiving medical attention. UK Police and the appropriate campus units are actively investigating this matter.

The University of Kentucky values a safe community for all students, staff, faculty and visitors. In the interest of promoting a safe and secure campus environment, UK Police offers the following tips to help keep our community safe:

  • Don’t accept drinks from strangers or drinks you did not see being made.
  • Don’t leave your drink unattended. If your drink was left unattended, get a new drink when you return.
  • Prevention, Outreach and Wellness Education Resources (POWER) offers programs and resources related to student wellness. Find POWER’s alcohol and drug prevention and education resources here.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.

In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
