Boyz II Men Serenade Singletary

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 15, 2009) − The top-selling Motown group of all time will bring its most memorable tunes, holiday favorites and lots of new material to Lexington. Boyz II Men will bring their talents to the Singletary Center for the Arts (SCFA) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the SCFA Concert Hall.

Based on sales, Boyz II Men is the most successful R&B male vocal group of all time. They recorded five No. 1 R&B successes between 1992 and 1997 and have sold more than 60 million albums. Their duet with Mariah Carey, "One Sweet Day," set and exceeded records for the longest period of time a single remained at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100; and it still holds the record. Boyz II Men is only the third artist, behind The Beatles and Elvis, to replace themselves at the No. 1 rating of the Billboard Hot 100. The group also received numerous Grammy awards for their work.

Boyz II Men originally included Nathan Morris, Marc Nelson, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman and Michael McCary. Nelson left the band in 1989 due to personality conflicts. Boyz II Men featured all four men as leads, avoiding the usual R&B group arrangement of one or two lead singers and a team of background singers. In 2000, McCary was diagnosed with scoliosis, limiting his ability to dance at live performances. The other three members have gone on to record new albums and tour. They hope to record a 20th anniversary album for 2011 that will include all four original members.

Notable Boyz II Men albums include "Cooleyhighharmony," "II," "Evolution," "Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya," "Full Circle," "Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA" and their 2009 release "Love." "Love" brings together a refreshing and eclectic group of songs from a variety of genres as personally selected by the band. Some selections included are Bonnie Raitt’s "I Can’t Make You Love Me," Journey’s "Open Arms," The Beatles "In My Life" and a duet with Michael Buble of Nat King Cole’s "When I Fall in Love."
