Staff Recognized for Achievement in Development

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 17, 2009) – Four University of Kentucky employees are the latest recipients of the Terry B. Mobley Development Awards. The awards honor the career of Terry B. Mobley, who will fully retire next summer after leading the university’s development efforts for more than 28 years and most recently serving as vice president for institutional advancement.

The Professional Achievement and Front Line awards honor and reward the achievement and outstanding performance of employees within the Office of Development as well as professional fund raisers for colleges or programs.

The 2009 Office of Development Professional Achievement winner is Susan Harper, associate director for the UK Fellows Society and Donor Relations.

“Susan outdoes herself each year with making each Fellows Dinner more spectacular than the last," said Paula Pope, director of campaign services and donor relations. "Her prowess is such that other schools have sent their event teams to learn from her and she has been honored by the Council for Advancement & Support of Education (CASE).  In addition, she handles students and million dollar donors with equal grace and always finds a way to thank those who help her.”

Loralyn Cecil, foundation and community relations manager for the Kentucky Children’s Hospital (KCH), is the 2009 Program Professional Achievement winner.

“Loralyn is an outstanding professional whose dedication, skill, energy and enthusiasm for KCH and the mission of the development office is evident in everything she does and in every interaction with donors, volunteers, physicians, staff and supporters of the hospital," said Mark Slover, director of development for KCH. "She continues to be entrepreneurial in identifying and engaging prospects and donors, and opportunities to partner with organizations and businesses in order to increase support for KCH.”

The winner of the Office of Development Front Line Award is Janet Robertson, information services database administrator for the Office of Development.

“Janet provides excellent customer service during all interactions and goes above and beyond to create standard reports for users, and she is always helpful and courteous in explaining how information is extracted and provides reports in a timely manner," said Beverly Birdwhistell, who works in donor relations for UK HealthCare. "Janet is dependable, loyal, ethical, a hard worker, a team player, has compassion for others, and deserves to be honored for her 33 years of dedicated service.”

Diana Wells, administrative support associate for UK HealthCare Development and Kentucky Children’s Hospital Development, is the 2009 Program Front Line Award winner.

“Diana is a consistent team player who is a wonderful role model and who communicates our mission, vision, and goals through her actions, words and attitude," said Brad Smetanko, budget officer for UK HealthCare. "Diana consistently provides a level of service to prospects, donors, volunteers, faculty, and her coworkers that is contagious, and she is a valuable asset to UK HealthCare and the university.”

All award recipients' names will be placed on a plaque bearing Terry Mobley’s name along with the names of previous award winners in the lobby of the William B. Sturgill Development Building on Rose Street. The winners also each earn an engraved julep cup and a $500 cash stipend.
