LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 3, 2025) – The University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital was recognized for its outstanding cancer care and patient outcomes on Newsweek’s 2025 list of America’s Best Cancer Care Hospitals.

Newsweek named University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, whose clinical programs are integrated with UK Chandler Hospital, among the top 50 cancer centers nationwide and specifically highlighted its excellence in lung and breast cancer care.

Newsweek partnered with a research firm to evaluate hospitals across the nation using an approach that included surveys of medical professionals and hospital managers, hospital quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores and patient-reported outcome measures. Hospitals were also evaluated on multiple quality measures including mortality rates, safety of care, readmissions and patient experience.

Markey has been a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center since 2013, and is one of only 57 cancer centers in the country to earn the NCI’s Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. The designation gives Markey patients access to the latest treatments and clinical trials offered only at NCI centers.

In 2024, Markey was ranked No. 36 in U.S. News & World Report’s national ranking for cancer care, making it the eighth consecutive year Markey has been ranked in the U.S. News Top 50.
