LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 27, 2025) — As neighbors and partners in the Lexington community, the University of Kentucky plays an important role in shaping the city’s future. Now, UK students, faculty and staff have an easy way to share their voices and stay informed about local government initiatives through Engage Lexington, the Urban County Council’s new online public input platform.

Created by the Urban County Council following recommendations from CivicLex, the platform serves as a central hub where Lexington residents can learn about ongoing projects and countywide policy efforts. After a quick one-time registration, users can provide feedback and contribute ideas on issues that impact Lexington — all on their own schedule.

Engage Lexington offers an accessible, transparent and modern way to participate in local decision-making, while complementing traditional ways of communicating with council, such as emails, phone calls and public meetings.

“Already, Engage Lexington has been used to gather public input on topics ranging from budget priorities to neighborhood traffic safety,” said Layton Garlington, public information officer with the Urban County Council. “It allows council members to see not only what people think, but also why they care — offering richer context than a simple yes-or-no.”

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
