LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 22, 2026)  We can’t control the weather, but University of Kentucky Transportation Services can arm you with information on how to deal with it. Below is a refresher on severe weather procedures, as it relates to transit and parking on campus.

Campus bus service

Blue, White, Green, Orange and Yellow route buses will continue to run as road conditions allow or unless otherwise directed by emergency officials. This is true during university delays, early dismissals and closures.

Riders should also be aware that bus service during emergency events is contingent upon campus conditions and may be interrupted due to imminent severe weather, road conditions or at the direction of emergency officials.

Rider alerts are posted on Transit, UK’s free bus tracking app. Download the app to stay up to date on service impacts.

Parking on campus

All parking regulations remain in effect as normal unless otherwise communicated. This is true during campus emergencies, delays, closures and early dismissals.

During university closures, exit gates in the campus parking structures are raised to assist with timely exits.

UK HealthCare

UK HealthCare patient and patient visitor areas remain on normal parking control (restricted to patients and patient visitors) 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

During severe weather outbreaks, overnight UK HealthCare employees who are required to remain on campus past their regular nighttime shift may remain parked in the UK HealthCare garages provided they are parked on the appropriate upper floors and displaying a valid employee or off-peak parking permit.

Transportation Services will work closely with UK HealthCare administrators to ensure that any extended shift employee parking is properly authorized.

UK Transportation Services’ office

During announced campus closures, delays and early dismissals, Transportation Services’ offices will close. However, many online services will remain available. Emergency alerts are posted on the Transportation Services’ website.

Motorist Assistance

Motorist assistance — including free on-campus battery jumpstarts — remains available to UK parking permit holders during severe weather. During closures, permit holders can contact UK’s towing contractor directly by calling 859-241-3031. Visit this page for details.

Wildcab Vouchers

Wildcab Vouchers is the university’s late-night, on-demand student transportation partnership with Uber, offering students a voucher for discounted Uber rides. This service is not directly impacted during university delays, dismissals or closures. However, Uber may opt to temporarily suspend service during episodes of severe weather.

Snow and ice removal

UK Facilities Management oversees snow and ice removal on campus. This includes surface parking lots, sidewalks and the top floors of parking structures. Transportation Services works closely with Facilities Management to help identify critical areas of concern.

If you would like to report a snow or ice removal issue, please contact Facilities Management at snow@uky.edu.

If you have questions or need more information about severe weather procedures, email the customer service center or call 859-257-5757.
