Collegiate Recovery Program offers ally training for students, staff

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 6, 2026) — Supporting students in recovery takes awareness, compassion and informed allyship. This spring, the University of Kentucky’s Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP), housed within POWER (Prevention, Outreach and Wellness Education Resources), is offering Recovery Ally Training, an interactive educational opportunity designed to equip students, faculty and staff with the tools to better support individuals navigating addiction and recovery.
Recovery Ally Training is a virtual, interactive seminar presented by CRP coordinator Riley Chatterjee. Participants will learn more about addiction and recovery processes, explore campus and Lexington-based resources, and gain practical strategies for offering support to people who may be struggling. The training emphasizes inclusive, stigma-reducing approaches that help foster a more supportive and informed campus community. Students who complete the training are eligible to receive UK Invests credit based on full participation.
The training builds on recent efforts to strengthen recovery support at UK. In August 2025, POWER revitalized the Collegiate Recovery Program, hiring a new program coordinator, establishing a network of essential partnerships and launching a weekly student-led recovery meeting. The program also hosted several social events throughout the fall semester to foster community building and sober fellowship among students.
The virtual training sessions will be offered on the following dates via Zoom:
- 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10
- Noon Thursday, Feb. 12
- 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 10
- Noon Thursday, March 12
- 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 7
- Noon Thursday, April 9
Any university organization, unit or department, can request Recovery Ally Training. To request a session, interested parties may visit the POWER website and complete a program request form, selecting Recovery Ally Training as the program of choice. POWER staff will follow up with those requests.
In addition to offering Recovery Ally Training, the Collegiate Recovery Program continues to support students through weekly recovery meetings held on Tuesdays, with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. in the Hilary J. Boone Center, Room 134. CRP will also host special events throughout the spring semester, including a week-long observance of Collegiate Recovery Week in April. Individual services such as recovery coaching and resource navigation are available by appointment.
As one CRP alum shared, the program represents a united effort to intervene with students who are lonely, sad and vulnerable.
“We recover out loud so that other students do not suffer in silence.”
