LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 20, 2026) — As the spring semester at the University of Kentucky comes to an end, students can look forward to Reading Days. While exams and the conclusion of the semester might be overwhelming, these days are intended to provide students with time and space to refocus, recover and complete studies successfully. Reading Days are a time to prioritize grades, catch up on studying and put up the final effort required for success.

The spring semester Reading Days this year are April 30-May 1.

Here are some tips and tricks for staying organized, reducing stress and preparing for a successful finish:

  1. Start with a plan. Begin by examining your course syllabus to ensure that you completely understand the expectations for each final examination. Determine whether you have a final paper, how long it should be and what kind of research is required. Consider whether there is an in-class presentation or a cumulative final test. Check for study guides or other materials given by your teachers. Transformative Learning can help answer these questions with resources like the 3:1 Support Plan.
  2. Find your productivity spot. UK has so many different spots where you can be productive. UK Libraries has spaces for all types of studies whether you need complete silence or a group study session. Find study spots at libraries.uky.edu/spaces-technology/find-space/individual-group-study
  3. Use your resources. UK offers a variety of ways to get help or ask questions about your upcoming finals. Here is a list of resources you can access through the Office for Student Success.
  4. Take care of yourself. While it may be tempting to rely on late-night snacks and all nighters, making better choices can help you focus and stay energetic. UK Dining provides a  range of healthy options. Reading Days also offer an excellent opportunity to use a Campus Recreation facility. Bonus tip: make sure you’re getting enough sleep.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and healthcare. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $1.02 billion research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
