Cats Fall at Tennessee, 84-77
Kentucky raced to a 21-point first half lead, only to see Tennessee rally from behind, as the Volunteers upset the 20th-ranked Wildcats 84-77 on Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. Jamal Murray led the Wildcats with 21 points and Tyler Ulis added 20.Kentucky (16-6, 6-3 SEC) came out hot, with Ulis leading the way. And when Isaiah Briscoe hit a layup with 5:46 left in the first half, the Wildcats led 34-13.From there, Tennessee mounted a rally on its home court. The Vols assembled a 23-8 run to close the half and make it 42-36 at the break.Tennessee (11-11, 4-5) took its first lead when Detrick Mostella hit a three-pointer with 14:09 to play. Ulis countered with a three of his own to give Kentucky the lead back.The Wildcats stretched the lead to four before Tennessee went on a 10-1 run to take a five-point lead.But Kentucky was not done. Ulis tied the game 70-70 on a pair of free throws with 5:16 remaining.But Tennessee had yet another run in them. This time, a 7-0 spurt built a lead that the Wildcats could not overcome.Alex Poythress had 14 points for Kentucky and Briscoe had 10 points and eight rebounds.Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, hosting Florida at Rupp Arena. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on CBS.
