No. 15 Kentucky Beats No. 11 Texas A&M, 71-58

2016 SEC Women's Basketball TournamentNo. 15 Kentucky got a balanced scoring effort, which led the Wildcats to a 71-58 win over 11th-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday in College Station, Texas. Four Kentucky players scored in double figures for the Wildcats, led by two players who posted double-doubles. Evelyn Akhator had 15 points and 18 rebounds for Kentucky, while Alexis Jennings had 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Wildcats.Kentucky also got double-figure scoring efforts from Makayla Epps, who had 14 points, and Maci Morris, who scored 10.With the win, Kentucky finished the regular season at 21-6 overall and 10-6 in the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats won their sixth game in a row, while snapping Texas A&M's six-game winning streak.Kentucky shot just 40.8 percent from the floor in the game, but was able to hold Texas A&M to 35.5 shooting in the contest. Kentucky also dominated the rebounding battle, grabbing 57 boards, compared with just 32 for the Aggies.The game didn't start well for Kentucky, as the Wildcats missed their first seven shots in the contest, which quickly amounted to a 10-1 lead for Texas A&M. But the Wildcats found their footing later in the first quarter, and trailed just 15-14 at the end of one period.In the second quarter, the teams traded the twice, but it was Kentucky that took a 30-28 lead into the break.The third quarter was when Kentucky seized the game. The Wildcats assembled a 9-1 run late in the period to take a 49-37 lead. Kentucky would lead 49-39 at the end of the period.In the fourth quarter, A&M was able to cut the lead to nine on two occasions, but the Wildcats were able to answer the Aggies each time before settling for a 13-point win.Courtney Walker lead Texas A&M (21-8, 11-5) with 16 points.With the victory, Kentucky clinched the number five seed in next week's SEC Tournament in Jacksonville. The Wildcats will play the second game of the day on Thursday, taking on the winner of Wednesday's game between Alabama and LSU.
