Arin Gilliland Named To 2015 NWSL Second XI

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Former University of Kentucky women's soccer All-American Arin Gilliland was named to the 2015 National Women's Soccer League Second XI in her rookie year, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.
Other players that Gilliland shares the honor with as members of this year's NWSL Second XI were 2015 World Cup champions Megan Rapinoe, Lauren Holiday, Nicole Barnhart as well as 2015 World Cup Golden Ball recipient, Carli Lloyd.
"Making the Second XI is beyond anything I could have imagined for my rookie year," said Gilliland. "To be recognized alongside such tremendous talent and some of the NWSL greats is an honor and a very humbling experience. There's no way I could have done it without the daily leadership of my teammates. They allowed me to be the best version of myself by continuously pushing me to my limit and by quickly teaching me what it takes on and off the field to be successful in this league."
Gilliland started in all but two matches that she played in her inaugural season with the Chicago Red Stars, helping guide them to their first-ever NWSL playoff appearance in program history. The Lexington, Ky., native tallied two assists in her first year, while playing over 1,400 minutes on the pitch for CRS.
