UK Nursing Alumnus Delivers Inaugural Sexton-Weaver Lecture
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 5, 2016) — University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing Dean Juliann Sebastian, a graduate and former assistant dean of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, will deliver the inaugural Sexton-Weaver Lectureship as part of the spring Nursing Leadership Lecture Series on Friday, April 8 at noon in the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital Pavilion A Auditorium. The lecture series is coordinated in partnership by the UK College of Nursing and UK HealthCare.
The Sexton-Weaver Lectureship allows faculty members and students to gather and hear from current legends in the nursing field on how they have brought new thinking and models to a wide rang of health care challenges. Nursing leaders have had a profound impact on healing environments as well as boardrooms and have drastically improved the profession and the Commonwealth.
Sebastian’s lecture is titled, “Leadership: Big Challenges, Big Opportunities.” The free lecture is open to UK College of Nursing students and faculty and UK HealthCare nursing staff and employees.
Sebastian earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the UK College of Nursing and a master’s in business administration from the UK Gatton College of Business. She was appointed dean of the University of Nebraska College of Nursing in 2011. Prior to her current position, she served as dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and as the assistant dean of advanced practice nursing at the UK College of Nursing. Her areas of expertise include organization of care delivery systems, care for underserved populations, academic nursing practice, nurse-managed health centers and doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program curricula.
