International Tent/Tailgate Party Will Celebrate UK's Global Family

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 7, 2014) — The University of Kentucky is celebrating its international family through an International Tent/Tailgate Party Saturday, Oct. 11, during UK's Family Weekend. The event will take place at 10 a.m., two hours before UK's football game against the University of Louisiana Monroe. The University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC), the UK Alumni Association, and the UK Parent Association are hosting the event.

International alumni, UK Education Abroad alumni, International Hospitality Program families, faculty, staff and students are invited to gather for this unique U.S. custom, which involves celebrating in the parking lots of stadiums and arenas before a sporting event.

"Family Weekend is a great time for families to share in their son or daughter's UK experience for a few days," said Nancy Stephens, assistant director of New Student and Parent Programs. "We try to put together a diverse schedule of events that showcases the best of UK and Lexington. We like to think there is something that appeals to every member of the family on our calendar."

The International Tent/Tailgate Party will extend Family Week beyond the borders of Kentucky and reflect UK's global family.

"The international UK alumni family is broad and growing rapidly," said Beth Barnes, interim assistant provost for internationalization. "We're looking forward to this event as a way to celebrate the range of internationalization at UK, and as a new gathering point for our international family."

If you cannot attend but would like to participate, please send a photo of your UK spirit to derrick.meads@uky.edu to share your "family" photos on the International Tent/Tailgate Party website and UK's social media.
