'Appalachia in the Bluegrass' Presents Concerts With Andrew Finn Magill, Jennifer Rose

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 20, 2017) The next two concerts in the "Appalachia in the Bluegrass" series will showcase the talents of Andrew Finn Magill and Jennifer Rose. On Friday, Sep. 22, fiddler Andrew Finn Magill will play. The next week, Friday, Sep. 29, folk singer and traditional dancer Jennifer Rose will perform. These free public concerts will take place at noon, at the Niles Gallery, located in the University of Kentucky Lucille C. Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center.

'Finn the Fiddler'

A multi-instrumentalist, multimedia director and composer, Andrew "Finn the fiddler" Magill is from Asheville, North Carolina. Magill started playing fiddle at the age of 10 and by 16 he was a two-time finalist at the All-Ireland Championships. Since 2011, he has toured the U.S. and Canada with Paul McKenna and his award-winning band and as a duo.

Kentucky Folk Rose

Based in Berea, Kentucky, Jennifer Rose is a true folk singer who learned her songs as she learned to speak. In addition, her training in dance from an early age inspires her to also share traditional dance with anyone who is interested. An instructor for the Berea College Country Dancers, Rose also serves as director of the Mountain Folk Festival in Berea.

"The Appalachia in the Bluegrass" concert series celebrates the old-time roots of American folk music by featuring a diverse range of traditional musical expression. The concert series will showcase 12 different artists, duos and groups from southern Appalachia ranging from artists straight off their front porch to those who have earned international acclaim.

The John Jacob Niles Center for American Music, host of the concert series, is a collaborative research and performance center maintained by the UK College of Fine ArtsUK School of Music and UK Libraries
