Senate Council, Provost to Host Town Halls on Future of Title Series at UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 13, 2017) —The University of Kentucky Senate Council and the Office of the Provost will host two town hall meetings to discuss the future of title series at the University of Kentucky.

The first forum will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Lexmark Public Room (Room 209) in the Main Building. The second town hall will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the William T. Young Library's UK Athletics Auditorium. (A forum scheduled for Nov. 15 was canceled and replaced with the forum on Nov. 17.)

The University Senate Council's ad hoc Committee on Title Series was charged jointly by the provost and the Senate Council to determine the feasibility of UK changing to a system of two title series (tenure track and non-tenure track), with ranks in both series at instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor. Additionally, discussion included the possibility of multi-year contracts for faculty in a non-tenure track series.

As part of this continuing process, the committee has submitted a preliminary report. Read the report and submit comments here. The town hall meetings provide an opportunity to gain feedback from the UK community.

Sharon Lock, chair of the ad hoc committee, will present the committee’s report at the town halls. Provost Tim Tracy and Senate Council Chair Katherine McCormick will also be present to answer questions.

For employees who want to participate but cannot attend in person, the town hall on Thursday, Nov. 16, will be live streamed from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m . Community members can watch the town hall online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9D5LGjmHgk.

Online attendees will be able to hear the presentation and discussion and will be able to submit questions and comments for the presenters to answer. To submit a question or comment, viewers can use the “live chat” box (next to the video) at the YouTube URL. Neither the link nor the chat box will be active until the afternoon of Nov. 16.

Questions about the town hall meetings can be directed to the University Senate.
