UK Friends of Music will present "Speakeasy" 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 15.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 30, 2018) The University of Kentucky Friends of Music invites the public to travel back in time with them at “Speakeasy,” a fundraising event featuring the musical styles of the 1920s and 30s. The event will begin 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15.

UK Professor Emerita of Music Education Cecilia Wang will host the nostalgic event capturing the times of illicit liquor stores and nightclubs that operated during Prohibition where popular music and dance often filled the air. Period attire is encouraged and finger food in addition to musical performances will be provided.

All proceeds from “Speakeasy” will benefit Friends of Music, a volunteer organization that funds and advocates student and faculty travel and research for the UK School of Music. With the help and funding of this organization, students and faculty alike at the school have received many opportunities to perform, study or present research on both a national and international scale.

“Speakeasy” will run 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at 527 Laketower Drive #102 in Lexington. The event is $40 per person, $20 of which is tax-deductible. There is a limit to the number who can attend this event, so RSVPs should be made to Vicki McVay, director of UK’s Piano Preparatory Program, at 859-257-2863 or Vicki.Mcvay@uky.edu. Checks for “Speakeasy” must be made out to: UK School of Music. They should be mailed or delivered to:
